In May, Senate Bill 2572 passed both the Senate and the House of Representatives. SB 2572 amends the School Code to provide that a school board may determine the schedule or frequency of physical education courses for a minimum of 150 minutes Kindergarten through 12th grade.
SB 2572 was sent to Governor Rauner for his signature. On August 19th Governor chose to veto the bill.
IAHPERD will not attempt to run the bill through the November veto session. Your Governmental Affairs committee will be assessing our options for the new legislative session that will begin January 2019. The Governmental Affairs Committee and the Shape Up Illinois Committee will be monitoring the November Election. Once the election results are finalized we will be updating legislative contact information on the IAHPERD website.
Please check your November, On The Move for more information.
